First signal will be at 1200 Friday with the start at Flashing Red Bell "32" (The Cows) off Stamford Harbor. Labor Day weekend's Vineyard Race is a classic American yachting event. This 238-mile course stretches from Shippan Point through the swirling currents of Plum Gut past Block Island, and on to the light tower at the entrance to Buzzard's Bay. Once reached, sailors return by leaving Block Island to starboard en route to the finish in Stamford Harbor. Begun in 1932, it has attracted the finest sailors and fastest boats for nearly 80 years, and its intricacies and challenges bring them back time after time. Those who are successful nearly always credit local knowledge of these tricky waters and a good deal of luck. The Vineyard Race was described in Yachting Magazine as, "The greatest distance races of the world have several things in common - a challenging course, competitive fleets and an interesting array of famous yachts. By those standards, the Stamford Yacht Club's Vineyard Race rates close to the top. Like a miniature Fastnet, the Vineyard has a combination of coastal cruising, where currents play a big role, a stretch of ocean sailing, and a mark to round - the Buzzards Bay tower - before returning." The 2024 ORC World Championship will bring top sailing teams from around the globe to battle on Rhode Island Sound and Narragansett Bay for one of four coveted world titles. It is the first time in over two decades this regatta, which will be held out of the New York Yacht Club Harbour Court from September 27 to October 5, 2024. The event will include the standard ORC A, ORC B and ORC C divisions, but will also include Class 0 for the first time opening up the event to boats with CDL values up to 17.400. The 2024 ORC World Championship will include a mix of buoy racing and offshore courses testing the mettle of all competitors. Contact the NYYC Sailing Office with any questions. This event is canceledThis is a sample event. The capabilities that exist in the All in One Event Calendar (AI1EC) plugin are enhanced by Crew Manager. The fields provided by AI1EC for start date/time and Event Location are used to tell the crew where the boat will be and what time Crew is expected to be there. The Skipper may use the AI1EC fields for Event Cost & Tickets to add a link for any tickets the Crew may purchase (e.g. post race party tickets). AI1EC also includes fields where the event organizer contact info and website may be entered. This is useful to list the sponsoring yacht club organizers name, phone and email. A link may also be entered for the yacht club or race website. The Skipper should include information that will help the Crew prepare and may include items such as a link to the race documents, scratch sheet, tides and weather. The Skipper may enter information in custom fields to show that the boat is registered, race fees are paid, and the uniform that the crew should wear (e.g. Wear White Shirts). The Skipper may also make assignments to individual members (e.g. bring beer, bring rum, bring munchies, etc.). The content below is automatically displayed for every event, including the formatted Crew list. If you sync the S&S Swan 411 Yankee Boy calendar with your personal calendar, the event content is automatically transferred.
